Hitting the streets
Here is a pic of Philip and Muhammad back from a run around town cleaning up and picking up recyclables. We are trying to build the model of the ecoRanger on the streets helping manage waste in a more appropriate way than the big municipal trucks that creates mess and traffic problems. There are a LOT of social factors to solve that become clear when we are out on the streets, but it is also as clear as ever that for recycling to work here the informal sector must be integrated. We are focusing on investing in our guys and hoping the idea catches with an institutional player. Muhammad is 16 and can't read and write and is also the hardest working guy in the program. Feeding off his energy reminds us that even if we don't get the institutional contract we can still have a strong positive environmental and social impact.
